Arrival airport

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN)

CAN is a practical southern China gateway. Decide early whether your base is Guangzhou city center, Pazhou, or a Pearl River Delta connection.

First 24 hours

  • Choose a hotel near your real purpose: food, Canton Fair, or rail connection.
  • Test mobile payment before ordering at smaller restaurants.
  • Keep your first meal simple and nearby; Guangzhou rewards slow wandering.

Starter routes

Choose a realistic first itinerary.

Landmarks along your route

See the places before choosing your days.

Match these places to the itinerary that fits your stay. They are separate outings, with arrival, rest and departure kept in the plan. Photographs record earlier visits; use current venue guidance for access and bookings.

广州塔 · 珠江

Canton Tower and the Pearl River

Choose a riverfront stretch for the skyline rather than crossing the city for every viewpoint. A tower ascent or cruise is optional and needs its own booking; the photograph shows a view from across the river.

越秀公园 · 五羊雕像

Yuexiu Park

Build a park outing around a manageable walk and the Five Rams statue. Leave room for a shaded break and lunch, especially in hot or wet weather.

沙面

Shamian Island

Use the tree-lined streets for a slower neighborhood walk. Pair it with a meal and plan the onward transfer separately; it is not the same waterfront stop as Canton Tower.

陈家祠

Chen Clan Ancestral Hall

Add a dedicated cultural visit in a longer stay, or swap it for another city outing. The roofline rewards a closer look; check current admission before fixing the day’s order.

Common mistakes

Avoid the first-day friction.

  • Canton Fair periods can change hotel prices sharply.
  • Restaurant queues are common; plan meals earlier than peak time.
  • Confirm whether your next train leaves from Guangzhou South or another station.

Before, during & after your city stay

Where Guangzhou fits in your journey.

Arrive & settle in

Match your arrival airport or station to your booking, save the hotel address in Chinese and leave time for luggage and check-in. A late arrival means a nearby meal and rest.

Count usable days

The city planner includes arrival on Day 1 and a departure buffer on the final day. Those days allow short local outings, not full sightseeing schedules.

Leave or continue

Confirm your next hotel or departure ticket before adding another city. Returning to your first city requires its own transport and time; it is not automatically included.

These complete routes show how Guangzhou connects with other stops. Choose a route to open its full itinerary; incoming routes are not suggestions to travel in reverse.
